It’s already time to start looking ahead. The 2014 NBA Draft class is shaping up to be way more loaded than the 2013 group. Here is an insanely early 2014 NBA Mock Draft where team needs and outstanding trades have NOT yet been taken into account.
1. Orlando-Andrew Wiggins, SF, Undecided, 6-8, Fr.
The top recruit in the 2013 class, Andrew Wiggins has a well-rounded game and all the makings of becoming an NBA superstar.
2. Charlotte-Jabari Parker, SF, Duke, 6-8, Fr.
Versatility is the key for Jabari Parker and NBA teams will love the fact that he is a high character kid as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if he sticks around Duke for more than a year though.
3. Cleveland-Marcus Smart, G, Oklahoma State, 6-4, So.
Marcus Smart surprised most by returning for his sophomore season. He is a fierce competitor in all aspects of the game. I’m just not sure if he’s a point guard or a shooting guard at the next level.
4. Phoenix-Aaron Gordon, F, Arizona, 6-9, Fr.
A ridiculous athlete who is explosive at the rim; Aaron Gordon has drawn early comparisons to Blake Griffin. He needs to work on his outside shot to maximize his potential.
5. New Orleans-Julius Randle, PF, Kentucky, 6-9, Fr.
The lefty can be a real force inside due to his strength and aggressiveness on the boards.
6. Sacramento-Andrew Harrison, PG, Kentucky, 6-5, Fr.
He has terrific size for a point guard and knows how to use his physicality to overpower opponents at the rim.
7. Washington-Willie Cauley-Stein, C, Kentucky, 7-0, So.
WC-S plays the game hard and has incredible athleticism for his size. He is only scratching the surface as to how good he will be.
8. Detroit-Glenn Robinson III, SF, Michigan, 6-6, So.
GR3 showed a lot of promise during his freshman year and should benefit from being “the guy” for the Wolverines next season.
9. Minnesota-Ilimane Diop, C, Senegal, 6-11, 1995
An athletic, lengthy big man who is more polished on the offensive end then most foreign big men.
10. Portland-Gary Harris, SG, Michigan State, 6-4, So.
The Big Ten Freshman of the Year is a versatile offensive scorer whether it’s attacking the tin or shooting it from deep.
11. Philadelphia-Dario Saric, SF, Croatia, 6-10, 1993
A versatile forward who can shoot it from the outside, Dario Saric is very skilled for his size and age.
12. Toronto-Aaron Harrison, SG, Kentucky, 6-5, Fr.
The other Harrison twin has a similar game to his brother but is more accustomed to playing off the ball since Andrew typically runs the point.
13. Dallas-Alex Poythress, SF, Kentucky, 6-8, So.
Alex Poythress had a very up and down freshman season but there is still a lot to like about his combination of size, strength, and athleticism.
14. Utah-Mitch McGary, F/C, Michigan, 6-10, So.
McGary’s stock blew up during March Madness due to his aggressive, physical style of play inside.
15. Milwaukee-Isaiah Austin, PF/C, Baylor, 7-1, So.
The Bear big man is an inside/outside threat but his rail thin frame is a concern among NBA scouts.
16. Boston-James Michael McAdoo, PF, North Carolina, 6-9, Jr.
James Michael McAdoo didn’t have the breakout sophomore season most expected but still is an intriguing prospect due to his athleticism.
17. Atlanta-Mario Hezonja, SG, Croatia, 6-6, 1995
Mario Hezonja is in the mold of most European wings since he is a crafty all-around scorer.
18. Houston-LaQuinton Ross, SF, Ohio State, 6-8, Jr.
If the versatile forward can pick up where he left off during his sophomore season, he could potentially be a lottery pick.
19. L.A. Lakers-T.J. Warren, SF, N.C. State, 6-8, So.
T.J. Warren is a very efficient scorer who is at his best when attacking the basket. He will be the offensive focal point for the Wolfpack next season.
20. Chicago-Spencer Dinwiddie, SG, Colorado, 6-5, Jr.
Spencer Dinwiddie is a versatile combo guard who can get after it as a defender.
21. Golden State-Semaj Christon, PG, Xavier, 6-3, So.
Semaj Christon is at his best attacking the basket and has great size for the point guard position.
22. Brooklyn-Doug McDermott, SF, Creighton, 6-8, Sr.
An efficient scorer from anywhere on the floor, Doug McDermott should be a solid role player at the next level.
23. Indiana-Jakarr Sampson, SF, St. John’s, 6-8, So.
Lengthy and athletic, Jakarr Sampson has a nice mid-range game but will need to get stronger.
24. New York-Adreian Payne, PF, Michigan State, 6-10, Sr.
Payne really came on strong during his junior season showing off his athleticism and ability to step out and knock down jumpers.
25. L.A. Clippers-Dwight Powell, PF, Stanford, 6-9, Sr.
After a disappointing sophomore season, the athletic power forward has bounced back to be rather productive so far as a junior.
26. Memphis-Jordan McRae, SG, Tennessee, 6-6, Sr.
The SEC Player of the Year put himself on the radar with a terrific junior campaign and is a talented all-around scorer.
27. Denver-Jordan Adams, SG, UCLA, 6-5, So.
A pure scorer who is very physical, Jordan Adams was overshadowed this year because of Shabazz Muhammad.
28. San Antonio-Jarnell Stokes, PF, Tennessee, 6-8, Jr.
The Vols junior is a load inside and knows how to carve out space down low.
29. Oklahoma City-Kyle Anderson, SF, UCLA, 6-9, So.
Making his biggest impact on the defensive end, Gorgui Dieng is a terrific rim protector and runs the floor well.
30. Miami-Mouhammadu Jaiteh, PF/C, France, 6-11, 1994
A physical presence in the paint, Jaiteh is still raw with his offensive game.
